Quick Start

Get started in minutes

Follow these steps to install and run Scale Transposer Live on your machine.

  1. 1

    Download and run the installer

Double-click the downloaded .exe and follow the on-screen instructions. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning — click More info → Run anyway to proceed.

  2. 2

Set up a virtual MIDI port

Scale Transposer Live routes the transposed MIDI output to a virtual port, which your DAW then reads as a normal MIDI input. On Windows, install loopMIDI (free) by Tobias Erichsen. Open loopMIDI, click + to create a new virtual port (e.g. loopMIDI Port), and leave it running in the background. Then set this port as the MIDI input in your DAW and disable MIDI input from your physical MIDI keyboard in your DAW — this prevents your DAW from receiving the unprocessed notes alongside the transposed output.

  3. 3

    Launch Scale Transposer Live

Open the app from the Start Menu or desktop shortcut. Select your physical MIDI controller as the input port and your loopMIDI virtual port as the output port. Choose your source and target scale, then hit Start — your notes are transposed in real time.

  4. 4

    (Optional) Configure hotkeys

Use the Settings panel to assign global hotkeys for switching scales on the fly — perfect for live performance. Default shortcuts are Alt + Left / Right (root note) and Alt + Up / Down (mode).
